VAT Accountant - VR/30239

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a VAT Accountant to join an international E&P organisation. This core contractor role is initially for 12 months; however, it is likely to become an ongoing requirement. As VAT Accountant you’ll play a key role in supporting the UK Finance Team with VAT compliance and controls.

     

Duties will include:

  • Advising and consulting with the business on the processes required to ensure indirect taxes are accounted for correctly.
  • Preparing the monthly VAT returns for all the UK VAT registered businesses.
  • Carrying out relevant accounting entries linked with the VAT accounts of the UK Group.
  • Keeping aware of developments within the business (across all UK sites) and considering the indirect tax impact.
  • Building working relationships in the organisation to ensure the objectives of accurate tax compliance and cost effective management of the indirect taxes is achieved.
  • Monitoring compliance with VAT controls, especially in the areas of invoicing, P2P and travel expenses.
  • Legal obligation to submit monthly VAT returns with penalties for non-compliance or error.
  • Critically assessing the SAP generated VAT figures to establish any errors in posting and to take a skilled and experienced view on the creditability of the end result.
  • Submitting VAT returns monthly, accurately and on time.
  • Meeting accounting policies, procedures and guidelines for VAT accounts of the UK Group.
  • Monitoring the business compliance with VAT controls across peripheral systems.

      

The ideal applicant will:

  • Have experience managing VAT and indirect taxes.
  • Possess a strong understanding of VAT legislation and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Be educated to degree standard, preferably in a finance discipline.
  • Be a qualified or part-qualified accountant or have significant VAT experience from a reputable accounting firm.
  • Focus on technical accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively with strong interpersonal, teamwork, and presentation skills.
  • Be results-driven and committed to delivering excellent service.
  • Challenge existing practices and implement initiatives.
