Building Maintenance / Facilities Technician (temp) - VR/30815
We are currently looking for a Building Maintenance Engineer / Facilities Technician to provide 6 month sickness cover.
- Providing technical assistance to facility staff and carry out repair and maintenance work where appropriate to do so.
- Assisting the Group Estate Manager in conjunction with the Operations Managers in the repair and maintenance of facilities.
- Ensuring the effective management and utilisation of the financial resources, in line with the Company’s financial regulations.

- Employees are responsible for the implementation of the Health and Safety Policy in so far as it affects them, their colleagues and others who may be affected by their work. The post holder is also expected to monitor the effectiveness of the Health and Safety arrangements to ensure these are implemented and developed as necessary.
- Effectively recruiting, deploying and managing any nominated staff, full or part-time, and volunteers, providing appropriate training to enable the team to deliver the various initiatives.
- Carrying out duties that support the safe and efficient operation of facilities.
- Ensuring a duty of care to self, staff and members of the public.
- Working within our Health and Safety, COSHH and risk assessment guidelines at all times.
- Attending regular training sessions in order to maintain knowledge and skills required to carry out your duties and update essential qualifications
- Maintaining a high level of conduct and appearance at all times.
- Understanding and display appropriate signage and undertake pre-work commencement checks as required when carrying out maintenance duties.
- Maintaining high standards of customer care at all times.
- To be aware of and comply with the financial procedures of the company.
- Undertaking re-decoration and lifecycle improvement works to maintain and enhance the facilities. 16 Undertaking repairs and improvements to all operated venues including the building fabric, fixtures and fittings and equipment where safe and appropriate to do so using Workstream Asset Management software to sign off or re-allocate jobs as required.
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance checks, such as monthly emergency lighting checks, as well as safety checks and general checks on operational equipment and fixtures and fittings and report the findings to operational teams and the Group Estate Manager, recording the results in appropriate documentation where required.
- Carrying out regular PAT testing as and when required to do so.
- Supporting facility staff in the good practice operation of the pool plant and make any recommendations for positive changes.
- Supporting facility staff in the repair and maintenance of the air handling and heating and ventilation systems and make any recommendations for positive changes including processes and building improvements to reduce overall utility consumption.
- Report to the Group Estate Manager any concerns on compliance with the maintenance arrangements including statutory testing or issues that could lead to service failures and/or impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of staff and users at the venues we operate.
- Carrying out any other ad hoc repair and maintenance duties as required by the Group Estate Manager that are appropriate and safe to do across all facilities.
- Advising the Group Estate Manager on continuous improvement and/or any concerns on health and safety obligations.
- Undertaking any periodic cleaning associated with planned preventative maintenance such as highlevel cleaning and/or gutter clearance and/or window cleaning where it is appropriate and safe to do so.
- Supporting on projects to either commission or decommission any facilities operated.
- Adopting a participative and collaborative style of working, underpinned by strong interpersonal skills that ensure effective team work with partner’s stakeholders and colleagues.
- Being expected to exhibit the highest standards of professional behaviour, creating effective working relationships with the voluntary sector based on mutual trust and respect.
- Using appropriate management information systems, maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines.
- Working with information technology and associated systems, and where appropriate, existing technology arrangements and consultative procedures will be applied in accordance with Company policies.
- Undertaking appropriate training associated with the duties of the post.
The full-time working week is 37 hours. A flexible approach to working is required [time off in lieu (T.O.I.L) system is in operation]. Your hours of work may be carried out in line with a shift pattern in operation for the establishment to which you are allocated and may include early morning, evening, night and week-end work. The detail of the shift rota and your working pattern will be supplied to you by your line manager. A car mileage user allowance is payable [if using your vehicle for work purposes you must have insurance for business use]. The Company operates a no-smoking policy. The job description is a representative document. The duties of the post can be varied provided they remain commensurate with the level of responsibility.
