Currently recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer - Orcaflex on a permanent staff basis for an oil and gas company based in Aberdeen. Experience in a similar role, as well as previous experience of working with Orcaflex, is essential for this position.

   

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer – Orcaflex will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

    

  • Designing and optimising products from initial concept stage, all the way through to production.
  • Producing 3D CAD models and Detail Drawings to provide solutions, in accordance with client requirements.
  • Producing technical reports, detailing work completed and the products produced. This includes, but is not limited to, hydrodynamic analysis using Orcaflex, engineering calculations, Finite Element Analysis and CFD.
  • Assisting in the development of company design systems, standards and procedures.
  • Contributing development ideas for new and existing products.
  • Providing support to proposals and projects through working to tight deadlines.

    

Experience / Qualifications:

    

Essential:

  • An engineering degree qualification in mechanical or structural engineering (a mechanical engineering degree would be preferred).
  • Or, alternatively, a relevant HND qualification with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ design engineering experience, preferably within the oil and gas or Offshore Renewables sectors.
  • Previous experience in a similar Design Engineer type role.
  • Experience with hydrodynamic analysis.
  • Experience of working with Orcaflex.
  • Experience with FEA and 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor experience would be preferred).

    

Desirable:

  • 5+ years’ experience of working in a mechanical design engineering environment.
  • Experience with CFD simulation techniques.
  • Experience with Mathcad.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in hydrodynamic analysis – preferably with specific analysing experience of mooring systems, umbilicals, risers and flowlines.
  • Programming experience with Visual Basic.
  • Composites experience.
  • Experience of working with plastics within a design environment.
  • Programming and macro derivation experience.
  • Experience of designing buoyancy products.
  • Injection moulding experience.
