Product Design Engineer - VR/29943
Currently recruiting for an experienced Product Design Engineer on a permanent staff basis for a well construction solutions specialist based in Portlethen, Aberdeenshire.
The Product Design Engineer will perform calculations for static and dynamic problems, material selection and tolerance studies.
The Product Design Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:
- Reviewing and analysing customer specifications, operational requirements, task statements, standards, and other documentation to determine engineering requirements.
- Supporting current product lines by implementing improvements as needed.
- Modifying existing products to meet internal or external customer requirements.
- Creating product or system layouts for fit, form and function checking.
- Preparing detailed drawings and schematics.
- Completing design reviews.
- Planning and developing experimental test programs.
- Analysing test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Regularly developing conceptual design and new products.
- Coordinating the manufacturing of prototype products or systems.
- Monitoring the performance of products through analysis of returned products.
- Providing support and investigate product quality related issues.
- Troubleshooting, performing root cause analysis, and developing potential solutions.
- Initiating and following up on corrective action when required.
- Providing technical support to sales and operations as required.
- Assisting in the delivery of product technical data packs, reports, technical bulletins, and updates.
- Maintaining the engineering database and documents designs and their associated information.
- Assisting with the preparation of patent disclosures.
- Preparing calculations and design packages as required to complete design reviews.
- Regularly developing conceptual designs and new products.
- Creating functional and cost-effective designs that meet specifications and requirements.
- Initiating test requests and write reports.
- Resolving any disposition of in-process parts.
- Troubleshooting issues, identify root causes and develop potential solutions for moderately complex issues.
- Constructing and writing technical reports or specifications.
Experience/Qualifications:
- A degree qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline would be preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar role, directly within the North Sea oil and gas industry, is essential.
- Experience with mechanical downhole and/or mechanical service equipment is essential.
- Previous experience with SolidWorks would be preferred.
- Applicants should have an understanding of theoretical calculations and how they apply to the design of a product.
- Applicants should have an understanding of fundamental design tools, such as threaded connections, seals, plated surfaces, heat treating, structural welding, gear drives, kinematics, etc.
