Currently recruiting for an experienced Reservoir Engineer on a contract basis for an E&P company based in central Aberdeen. It is a 12-month maternity cover contract position, and the company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role.

The Reservoir Engineer will be responsible for the majority of reservoir engineering support to the asset - driving the field development, opportunity identification, long and short-term field and well forecasting, as well as other opportunities including exploration, subsea tiebacks and carbon storage. The post holder will be responsible for data analysis and dynamic modelling, as well as uncertainty assessment in relation to development planning and field performance monitoring.  The successful candidate will be responsible for production forecasting using a variety of tools, reserves and resource assessments and maturation, business planning and uncertainty analysis.  Additionally, the Reservoir Engineer will be expected to contribute to operational well and field performance optimisation, as well as field management plans.

Reporting to the Subsurface Team Lead, the Reservoir Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for analysis, evaluation and studies performed in reservoir engineering and field development.
  • Analysing field and well dynamic behaviour – raw data manipulation and acquisition planning (e.g., PVT, PBU, sampling and other operations to validate field performance and performance predictions).
  • Evaluating analogue field behaviour to understand and identify the possible range of outcomes.
  • Contributing to definition of the appropriate reservoir management strategy and data acquisition to maximise field economic recovery, working with the Production Engineer and Production Optimisation Team. Validating decisions with additional data and modelling where necessary.
  • Performing reservoir modelling and dynamic simulations, history matching / calibration, subsurface uncertainty analysis. Using fit-for-purpose integrated predictive tools and models to evaluate incremental well and development opportunities, and to assess production forecasts and reserves.
  • Developing, building and adapting reservoir models, working with the Geoscience, Petrophysical and Petrotechnical disciplines to do so.
  • Preparing and documenting production forecasts on a well by well and field basis for short-term and life of field forecasts – working with Production Optimisation to ensure appropriate implementation of the well and reservoir management strategy.
  • Initiating technical and business cases for incremental projects in order to optimise production rates and hydrocarbon recovery aimed at maximising economic recovery.
  • Providing technical support to Drilling and Completion Team for well trajectories and completions design and execution, including testing and sampling operations. When required, supervising operations on well site for well start-ups and interventions.
  • Performing reserves and resources estimates, classification and documentation for reserve reporting internally (Annual Statement of Reserves).
  • Maintaining up-to-date life of field production forecasts, cost profiles and other necessary information within the Value Navigator (Valnav) corporate database.
  • Providing appropriate QA and QC of yearly forecasts and well performance assessments in collaboration with the Production Optimisation Team.
  • Providing evaluations of further development strategies and incremental investment projects to mature contingent and prospective resources.
  • Managing, where necessary, input and output to / from external studies. QC and applying study findings and conclusions.
  • Preparing data sets and reports for partners and regulator as required.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree qualification in Reservoir / Petroleum Engineering is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, within the North Sea oil and gas industry, is essential.
  • Significant experience of working on development and producing projects in operated environments is essential.
  • North Sea gas field experience would be advantageous.
  • Applicants should have an in-depth understanding of all reservoir and petroleum engineering activities.
  • Proficiency in the use of computational models for reservoir simulation and well and reservoir performance evaluation (e.g., Prosper MBAL and GAP, Kappa, Eclipse, TNav and Petrel etc.) is essential.
  • Demonstrable track record of uncertainty management is essential.
  • Demonstrable track record of integrated cross disciplinary working in a field development and infill environment is essential.
