Currently recruiting for an experienced office-based Rig Services Electrical Engineer on a contract basis for an E&P company based in Kingswells, Aberdeen. It is an initial 12-month contract position (with possible scope for extension), and the company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role. It’s an onshore/office-based position that may involve occasional offshore travel.

     

The Rig Services Electrical Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and managing the maintenance of the equipment and drilling facilities on various assets. Planning and ensuring the drilling assets are in a safe state of readiness to accept a drill crew in line with the plans.  Reacting at short notice to a change in the plan or to any unexpected equipment failures.
  • Managing and working with the main drilling contractor’s maintenance teams. Giving guidance and direction to the level of maintenance required for each asset, equipment standardisation, levels of spares, planning requirements and budget review.
  • Continually reviewing the SAP maintenance system, its routines and implementation by the drilling contractor. Working with the drilling contractor and advising on any improvements or any changes required.
  • Ensuring good planning and direction is maintained during the implementation of rig readiness, equipment replacements or any upgrade. Reviewing and working with third parties to verify and advise on all technical aspects of equipment and the levels of certification required.
  • Monitoring the actual work carried out to ensure it is in accordance with the maintenance strategies and ensuring that the management of change is followed by the contractors.
  • Technically advising the contractors on the type and levels of certification required for any piece of existing or new equipment purchased and measuring them against performance standards where appropriate.
  • Liaising with various departments (Safety HSE, Well Services, Integrity, Projects, Purchasing) and the various technical authorities to ensure a clear picture is maintained for optimised operations throughout the assets.
  • Planning and executing rig re-activation scopes to ensure efficient rig start-up.
  • Liaising with contractor and Projects Team as required for planning and execution of any planned Hydraulic Workover Unit mobilisations to ensure efficient project start up.
  • Assisting to maintain minimum downtime during drilling/workover/P&A operations.
  • Allowing a safe transition for crews from platform to platform with a minimal start-up period.
  • Delivering continual improvement and striving, with third party contractors, to reach operational excellence.
  • Continually reviewing the equipment requirements against the company’s performance standards.
  • Monitoring the levels of maintenance required on each asset and adjusting to suit the forward plan.
  • Ensuring adequate third-party Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
  • Greater integration of the maintained drawings, maintenance and certification into the SAP system.
  • Minimising any risk to the platform equipment and operation.

          

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Current/valid offshore certification would be preferred.
  • A project management qualification would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar Electrical Maintenance/Support Engineer type role, directly within the North Sea oil and gas industry, is essential.
  • Previous direct North Sea operator experience would be preferred.
  • Applicants should have previous experience of working with drilling contractors.
  • Applicants should have a sound understanding of drilling equipment, processes and procedures.
  • Applicants should have knowledge of management of change, project management and commissioning.
