Currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Design Engineer on a permanent staff basis for a Subsea Service company based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.

     

The Senior Design Engineer will support the delivery of innovative engineering solutions from conception and detailed design – all the way through to project management and delivery.  The post holder will provide general engineering support in the design of temporary works, permanent steel works, sea-fastening and other similar works for E&S, subsea survey, and construction projects.

      

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Design Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing innovative engineering solutions for the Offshore Energy sector.
  • Carrying out conceptual and detailed 3D modelling, detailed engineering drawings and schematics – using proprietary CAD packages.
  • Undertaking engineering calculations, ensuring fitness for purpose of designs.
  • Effective design optimisation, including the selection of components and materials.
  • Carrying out engineering analysis, primarily Finite Element Analysis.
  • Leading, and participating in, in-house and client-based design reviews.
  • Reviewing and approving engineering drawings, calculations, analysis models and documentation.
  • Compiling technical and commercial documentation including reports, calculations, specifications, parts lists, test and operational procedures, manufacturing data, and project cost projections.
  • Interfacing and technical liaison with other company staff across multiple sites, as well as clients and suppliers.
  • Project engineering and managing design and build projects.
  • Monitoring live budget for projects.
  • Providing support to the development and submission of tenders.
  • Liaising with 3rd party design verification bodies.
  • Providing day to day leadership, supervision, support, and guidance to Junior Engineers in their project activities and in their engineering development.
  • Providing offshore engineering support activities from onshore, as well as from location offshore, as required.
  • Providing day to day engineering support and advice to Manufacturing and Test and Assembly Departments.

      

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A Degree qualification in a Mechanical Engineering discipline, or similar, is essential.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards, would be preferred.
  • Previous design engineering experience with subsea technology and marine handling equipment is essential.
  • Applicants should have a strong grasp of structural mechanics and materials technology.
  • Structural design engineering experience of sea-fastening, structural steel, temporary works, naval architecture, or similar is essential.
  • Experience with engineering software – such as a SolidWorks, Mathcad and ANSYS FEA – is essential.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is essential.
  • Applicants should have experience with beam/linger design software (e.g, STAAD Pro, SpaceGass).
  • Applicants should have experience of working with 3rd party certifying bodies as part of the design verification process.
  • Applicants will be expected to hold a sound understanding of conceptual and detailed design processes for cost effective manufacture.
  • Applicants should have a sound understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining and fabrication.
