Currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Drilling Engineer on a contract basis for an E&P Operator based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire. It is a project position to support key explorations for West of Shetland and the contract is currently due to finish at the end of November 2023. The company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role.

     

Reporting to the Lead Drilling Engineer, the Senior Drilling Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Able to perform all drilling engineering tasks with total autonomy as per WCM Procedure. Ensuring wells are designed and prepared in accordance with UK Regulations and Company Rules in a timely manner, and in liaison with the other project members (Completion, Testing, Fluids etc.).
  • Assisting Drilling and Completion Superintendent during operational follow-up of drilling campaign and the accuracy of daily reporting. Act as DCSI whenever necessary.
  • Assisting the Drilling Engineering Leader and Well Operations Team Leader to demonstrate commitment to safety.
  • Ensuring optimisation of safe working practices are considered in the development of operational programmes.
  • Ensuring ‘major risks’ are identified and mitigated in the development of operational programmes, and lead the well risk assessment process.
  • Ensuring drilling programmes / end of well reports are prepared to the required deadlines, standards and accuracy.
  • Ensuring applications (HSE notifications, DECC permits) and returns to external agencies are prepared as required to satisfy the overall drilling programme in a timely manner. Tracking and co-ordinating approvals and permits. 
  • Application for derogations as required.
  • Proactively identifying and preparing programme amendments / MOCs in case of unscheduled events.
  • Ensuring all programmes, updates / MOCs and notifications are in line with the Well Examination Scheme.  
  • Ensuring follow-up of the rig cost control for service contracts involved in drilling and completion operations.
  • Ensuring wells are designed and prepared in accordance with UK Regulations and Company Rules.
  • Mastering relevant drilling engineering specialities, such as casing design in WellCAT, Managed Pressure Drilling and subsea drilling operations.
  • Leading detailed technical studies and apply technical skills and innovative thinking to obtain positive outcomes. Proposing changes and / or innovations with properly identified risks and expected benefits.  Documenting such innovations in the REX system.
  • Leading active performance tracking and management, and deploy digital tools to improve drilling performance.
  • Establishing strategy / procedures (including SIMOPS and bridging documents) to meet the project schedule.
  • Performing and / or supervise the implementation of engineering work plans, providing live engineering support to operations (casing design, directional, hydraulics, swab and surge, torque and drag, well control calculations etc.).
  • Collaborating with relevant Geoscience Metiers in the organisation and preparation of ‘Well Statement of Requirements’ meetings and reports.
  • Organising and participating in task forces to resolve engineering / technical issues.
  • Ensuring material stock remains compatible with project schedule / corporate plan and update / follow up om equipment preparation for routine / non-routine operations with the assistance of the Drilling Engineers.
  • Providing the required technical documentation and input to allow call for tenders and award of contracts for the provision of services specific to the projects. Assisting in the negotiation of drilling related contracts required for future operations.
  • Organising and participating in HAZID / HAZOP’s when required and ensure recommendations are applied.
  • Effective contract management of contracts allocated, ensuring best value for company and proper execution of the contract.
  • As contract rep for diverse service companies, following up on contractor performance, and plan and conduct QA / QC audits and SQM.
  • Supporting the Joint Venture and Development departments as technical interface assistant between company and its partners for the drilling aspects.
  • Supervising and coaching / mentoring entry level Engineers.

      

Experience / Qualifications:

  • A relevant Engineering Degree qualification would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar Senior Drilling Engineer type role, within the oil and gas industry, is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, directly with an oil and gas operator, would be preferred.
  • West of Shetland drilling experience would be highly desirable.
  • Semi-submersible drilling experience is essential.
  • Applicants will be expected to be proficient with typical drilling engineering software (T-DESK, Wellview etc.).
