Senior Geologist / Geoscientist - VR/27753
Currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Geologist / Geoscientist on a contract basis for an E&P Company based in central Aberdeen. It is a 12-month contract position, and the company are only considering PAYE contractors for this particular role. The successful candidate will be working a 37-hour week and hybrid working opportunities will be available.
The post holder will provide a wide range of geological and geophysical support and technical advice to the business (including the Asset, Project and Wells Teams). The successful candidate will also deliver subsurface licence commitments and work programmes, as well as identify and mature business growth opportunities. The role will support both gas production and carbon storage assets.
Reporting to the Development Subsurface Manager, the Senior Geologist / Geoscientist will have the following main duties and responsibilities:
- Providing detailed reservoir characterisation and description of assets via the use of seismic, log data, core, regional data and analogues.
- Responsibility for calculating in-place volumetrics for fields and discoveries.
- Interpreting and identifying infill well opportunities and maturation of contingent resources to reserves.
- Constructing and updating 3D static reservoir models and undertaking integrated modelling work with Petrophysicists and Reservoir Engineers.
- Planning and delivering new infill wells by preparing required documentation and working closely with Operations Geologist and Wells Team to execute delivery of new wells.
- Providing geological input to carbon storage projects and evaluations, including reservoir modelling, risk evaluation and development planning.
- Providing subsurface support for decommissioning activities / well abandonments.
- Formulating and executing agreed technical programs for each asset.
- Project management of outsourced subsurface studies.
- Supporting the preparation of subsurface material and present internally, to regulators and joint venture partners.
- Working closely within other subsurface disciplines, and communicate effectively with Peer Reviewers, Assets and other appropriate business areas.
- Geological input into new business opportunity evaluations.
- Supporting peer review of internal technical work.
- Challenging and providing technical feedback to JV partners.
Experience / Qualifications:
- A relevant Geology / Geoscience degree qualification is essential. An MSc degree qualification in a relevant discipline would be preferred.
- Previous experience in a similar role, directly with a North Sea-based E&P Operator and as part of joint venture groups, is essential.
- Broad subsurface knowledge of the UKCS with previous experience of development and production assets within the UKCS is essential.
- Exposure to drilling and well operations is essential.
- Applicants should have excellent subsurface knowledge of the UKCS, in particular SNS and EIS.
- Applicants should have a strong background in petroleum, structural, stratigraphic or sedimental geology, or geophysics.
- Applicants should have excellent wireline log and formation evaluation interpretation skills.
- Experience with geological interpretation software tools, such as Petrel and ArcGIS, is essential.
- Experience with probabilistic volume estimation software, such as GeoX and REP, is essential.
- Experience in the use of 3D geological modelling for subsurface evaluation opportunities is essential.
