Senior Process Safety Engineer - VR/30023
Join an oil and gas operator who are going through a fantastic period of growth as Senior Process Safety Engineer on a long term PAYE contract basis in Aberdeen.
Reporting to the Head of HSE, as the Senior Process Safety Engineer, you will have the following main duties and responsibilities:
- Maintaining a thorough understanding of relevant regulations, company procedures and best practice.
- Working proactively with the Onshore and Offshore Teams to provide timely and accurate technical/process safety engineering advice.
- Leading and participating in the asset barrier model reviews, provide guidance for improvements and a management overview of the asset barrier model health status.
- Assuring the standard of process safety risk assessments for operational activities and proposed modifications, e.g. Safety Critical Elements Risk Assessment (SCRA), Hazard Identification (HAZID), Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) etc.
- Supporting and promoting the technical/process safety element of the company’s SEMS elements across the business.
- Undertaking the role of performance standard owner for nominated performance standards.
- Assisting in the development and ongoing maintenance of a process safety reporting system PSPIs including relevant KPI’s.
- Actively seeking areas for safety engineering and process safety improvement and develop sustainable efficient solutions.
- Identifying leading indicators related to process safety and acts, to ensure timely intervention for the prevention of MAH.
- Providing process safety engineering related information, advice and support to all asset hubs and is responsible and accountable for acting on reports associated with performance assurance status against relevant performance standards.
- Responsible for continually monitoring performance standards through audit and review to ensure that associated schedule and maintenance strategies are appropriate in the asset SECE lifecycle.
- Participating in process safety related incident investigation so that lessons can be learnt and are effectively communicated across other sites and groups.
- Monitoring, maintaining, reviewing and developing process safety processes and procedures.
- Supporting and participating in process safety audits, conduct safety critical risk assessment (SCRA) / Operational Risk Assessment (ORA) reviews, input and facilitate risk assessments to support decisions.
- Preparing technical notes to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and providing technical justification to resolve technical/process safety-related issues.
- Liaising with the ICP to resolve actions raised during periodic verification visits and be responsible for continually assessing the suitability of verification schemes.
- Facilitating and coordinating HAZIDs, Risk Assessments, P&ID reviews, ALARP studies, and major accident hazard screening, ensuring maintenance of screening/assessment standards.
- Providing process safety support for the management of change process, including reviewing AFA’s, TQ’s, P Forms, and WMS deferrals and change requests.
- Planning, participating, coordinating, and providing technical input for safety case thorough review and COMAH safety report reviews.
- Posting reviews develop a lessons learned report that identifies opportunities for improvement and optimization of the thorough Review process.
- Support regulator visits to sites with a focus on process safety, providing input into responses to the regulator as needed (NAI’s, letter items, enforcements, etc.), and preparing and supporting safety case amendments, material changes, and combined operations notifications submissions.
- Facilitating process safety risk assessments for operational activities and proposing modifications (e.g., HAZID, QRA), monitor compliance with relevant company-wide procedures and standards, and record, measure, and analyse process safety performance in line with KPIs.
- Developing process safety-related safety alerts, bulletins, and lessons learned, and deputize for the technical process.
- Safety lead as required.
Key Experience/Skill:
- Well-rounded work experience preferred, with significant direct experience in either oil and gas operations or onshore support role closely linked to oil and gas operations.
- Previous experience as a technical safety professional in the oil and gas industry.
- Knowledge and understanding of the UK regulatory regime.
- Appreciation of Human Factors and the impact on process safety.
Educational Qualification and Certifications
- Relevant engineering degree or equivalent and risk management qualification with considerable technical experience in a similar role.
- Post graduate qualification or equivalent in safety and reliability engineering preferred.
