Currently recruiting for an experienced Xmas Tree / Wellhead Engineer on a contract basis for an oil & gas operator based in Aberdeen. It’s a 6-12 month contract position and the company is open to taking on either a PAYE or a Ltd Co contractor - however, if Ltd Co is the preference, then the candidate will be required to carry out a status determination assessment, and if deemed inside of IR35, then the contractor will have to transfer to a PAYE contract. The role will be remote / home-based to begin with, but it will transition to more office-based working once Covid-19 guidelines allow, and there will also be a requirement to work offshore, on occasion.

     

The Xmas Tree / Wellhead Engineer will manage subsea and surface trees, wellheads and associated equipment design, installation and operations, safely, and in accordance with the asset plan.  This role would suit an experienced Engineer who has experience with both dry and wet wellheads and trees.

    

Reporting ton the Head of Well Engineering, the Xmas Tree / Wellhead Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Preparing scopes of work and appropriate specifications for procurement of equipment and services.
  • Technical lead for wellhead and tree supply contracts. Responsible for managing the agreed relationship with service providers and in setting the KPIs with the Contract Owner and C&P Specialist.
  • Applying functional specifications to deliver optimum value in accordance with API 6A, 17D etc.
  • Reviewing manufacturer’s proposals, and confirm that the proposed temperature class, material class, PSL and PR are appropriate for the application.
  • Ensuring equipment providers have robust QA / QC policies that are in compliance with latest industry standards and codes.
  • Participating in audits and inspections in collaboration with the QA/QC Engineer.
  • Maintaining and providing accurate records of all tree / wellhead system components utilised, changed and serviced, ensuring correct information is communicated in well handover package.
  • Ensuring receipt of complete Manufacturing Record Books (MRBs) prior to well handover.
  • Reviewing and approving vendor design, assembly and testing documents.
  • Overseeing construction QA/QC. Coordinating FAT/SIT operations, as well as third party equipment procurement and interface testing.
  • Verifying design review, including the wellhead system / tree interfaces.
  • Performing rig surveys and proposing rig / equipment modifications where necessary.
  • Taking responsibility for BOP / tree / wellhead and tubing hanger interfaces.
  • Responsibility will extend to the completions programme for operations, regarding tree, tubing hanger, SSTT and BOP interface issues.
  • Coordinating offshore operations supervision and associated equipment and personnel.
  • Overseeing the installation, orientation and testing of the wellhead and tree equipment on location.
  • Providing onshore technical support for offshore operations.
  • Generating post-operations report and implement lessons learned.
  • Ensuring well handover and subsea approach document (when required) are completed in a timely manner.

    

Experience / Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant Engineering discipline, would be preferred.
  • Valid and up-to-date IWCF Well Control certification would be preferred.
  • The full suite of offshore certification would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar office-based Xmas Tree / Wellhead Engineer type role, within the oil and gas industry, is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, directly with an oil and gas operator, would be preferred.
  • Applicants will be expected to possess extensive engineering / operations experience with a major wellhead / xmas tree supplier.
  • Extensive experience in wellhead / tree engineering, operations and site supervision is essential.
